PHOTODYNAMIC THERAPY
Photodynamic therapy (PDT) uses not only blue light but also oxygen present in the tissue and photosensitizing agents. The therapy involves two phases: the first, in which the doctor applies aminolevulinic acid (5-ALA), a selective photosensitizing substance that identifies and isolates the target, to the treated areas. A second phase, in which the patient is exposed to the light of a specialized lamp. This light targets diseased cells and minimizes damage to healthy tissue. In essence, 5-ALA acts as a "selective catalyst" for the areas being treated while preserving healthy skin.

ACNE:
After a course of phototherapy for mild to moderate acne, or photodynamic therapy for more severe cases, a significant decrease in the size of the sebaceous glands and, consequently, sebum production is observed, resulting in less oily, less shiny skin with smaller pores. A slowdown in bacterial proliferation is also observed, particularly of Propionibacterium acnes, the bacterium primarily responsible for acne vulgaris, with a significant improvement in acne lesions.SKIN PHOTOAGING
: By stimulating the production of collagen and elastin, essential substances for firmer, more toned skin, PDT is useful for combating skin photoaging, particularly for treating fine lines and wrinkles on the cheeks, around the eyes, and around the orbits.
